Well, it’s down to the last week here at HMCS Avalon. To prepare for the busy week ahead, the cadets relaxed and enjoyed some activities over the weekend. On Saturday morning, the sailors visited the Johnson Geo Centre in St. John’s and then spent the afternoon swimming at the Aquarena. On Sunday, the band joined the fun and all the cadets went to Bell Island to visit the Mine Museum and go on an underground tour of the old number 2 iron ore mine. In the picture is band cadet Megan MacMillan in the number 2 mine. It was a great learning experience!
A day in the life of a band cadet at HMCS Avalon is never boring. Especially since their course director, Acting Sub-Lieutenant Katie Lawlor, is always trying to find new and exciting things for them to do. One such example of this was last Friday, when Bryan Efford of Music Collections in Mount Pearl held a drum seminar for the band.
