This year marks the 100th anniversary of the Cadet Instructors Cadre (CIC). To mark the occasion, the Greenwood Air Cadet Summer Training Centre will dedicate a time capsule with photos of the training centre today, letters from the cadets and staff members, and other memorabilia. It will be closed during the training centre's closing ceremonies on August 20, 2009, and will not be opened again until the summer of 2034. 14 Wing’s Construction Engineering Squadron generously donated their time and materials to build the beautiful time capsule and pictured here, Lieutenant-Colonel Noel Hand (right) receives the time capsule from Major Judy Tromp (left), Richard Graham (left centre) and Sherri Blackburn (right centre). We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the Construction Engineering Squadron and all of 14 Wing Greenwood for the outstanding support over the course of the summer and the past fifty-eight years that we have been located in Greenwood.
The Greenwood Air Cadet Summer Training Centre’s survival training site is located at Cloud Lake, situated in the heart of the Annapolis Valley in Nova Scotia. Protected by the Nova Scotia Wilderness Areas Preservation Act, the lake is virtually untouched by man and the staff and cadets strive to keep it that way. The lake is surrounded by a multitude of wild birds and water animals, as well other land wildlife. The Introduction to Survival Training Course and the Survival Instructor’s Course both call Cloud Lake home, and once you have spent just a few hours at the lake, it is easy to see why these cadets and staff seek to return every year.
