RCSS(A) SAIL INSTRUCTOR DEVELOPMENT CLINIC (IDC) 2009
Reference: CYA Coaching Development Policy Handbook
1. It is intended to host the RCSS(A) Sail Instructor Development Clinic (IDC) at the Shearwater Sail Centre from 20-27 June 2009.
2. There have been recent changes to the CYA and one of these changes involves the Coach development. For this reason the courses being offered in Shearwater this year are the LEARN TO SAIL (LTS) COACH and the PROGRAM MANAGER MODULE (PMM). The PMM is in its early phases, but it assists coaches in preparing to run various sail programs within the CYA. For more information on the New CYA coaching development programs visit here. Prior to the start of the courses a SCOP Mod 3 refresher will also be offered if enough candidates require this training.
3. Course dates and breakdown is as follows:
a. SCOP MOD 3 REFRESHER 20-21 June 09
b. FUNDAMENTAL COACHING COURSE 22-23 June 09
c. SAIL EVALUATION WEEKEND 24-25 June 09
d. LEARN TO SAIL COACH COURSE 26-27 June 09
e. PROGRAM MANAGER MODULE 26-27 June 09
NOTE: FINAL EVALUATIONS WILL OCCUR AT A LATER DATE
4. Course candidates will be required to complete ALL the required pre-requisites for each course prior to attending the IDC (excluding the FCC as it will be offered for those who require).
5. LEARN TO SAIL COACH COURSE (Green/Blue) – note interested candidates who are already certified as a Green Instructor will apply for this training.
a. Prerequisites(must have before start of course) are as follows:
i. Minimum of 16 years of age by beginning of course No Exceptions
ii. First Aid; minimum Emergency level - Must be Current
iii. Swimming Award: Small Craft Rescue Award(SCOP Mod 3) - Must be Current
iv. Pleasure Craft Operator’s Card
v. Bronze 4 / 5 Sailing Certificate
vi. Sailing Fundamental Course (must check if not qualified)
vii. Successful completion of Sailing Evaluation Weekend
b. Certification Requirements (to occur after training is completed)
i. Successful completion of the Make Ethical Decisions online evaluation
ii. Successful completion of the White Sail Coach evaluation with a certified CYA Evaluator (scheduled at a later date)
6. PROGRAM MANAGER MODULE
There are no pre-reqs for this training. This is module training and is designed to prepare those individuals who will be employed as course OICs or sail school managers. There are no Red clinics being offered this year and this would be a good opportunity for professional development for current Blue Instructors.
7. Since the SCOP Mod 3 is a pre-requisite for the clinic, there will be no pay allocated for these days (rations and quarters will be provided). Cadets will not be eligible for pay. Anyone who is not current in SCOP mod 3 or will be expiring will be REQUIRED to attend this refresher.
8. Those interested should complete the online form. Before submitting this form, print a copy and forward it to the Region Cadet Sea Training Officer through your respective Area Cadet Officer (Sea), no later than 20 April 2009.
9. Candidates will notice the pre-requisite section on the application require applicants to fill in their pre-requisite dates. If any applicant does not have any pre-requisite they are to indicate the date of the course they are registered. If the course is a home study course, please indicate that the reference material has been ordered.
10. Proof of pre-requisites must be received by RCSU(A) no later than 20 April 2009. Any applicant that does not forward this supporting documentation WILL NOT be selected for the IDC.
